At The Open Sanctuary Project, indicating Non-Compassionate Source means that the body publishing the information we are citing advocates for or condones the use of animals or substances that come from their bodies for human benefit. For example, a horse care source may advocate for horses to be raced, or a chicken care source may advocate for the human consumption of chicken eggs, or a goat care source may advocate for breeding.
While the data sourced may include elements of compassionate care, we believe that it’s important to note that we do not condone these sources’ views about animals and their role in the world. However, in the interest of transparency, we believe it is similarly important to cite the sources where we’ve gotten information from.
