The Open Sanctuary Project’s Nondiscrimination Policy

An image of eight hands reaching towards each other and clasping together at the center.

A Resource For Everybody

The Open Sanctuary Project is committed to fostering an environment of respect, equity, and inclusion. This commitment is formalized through a nondiscrimination policy that informs decisions at all levels of our organization, ensuring that our mission to support animal organizations is pursued with integrity and care for all involved, including human and non-human animals

Our nondiscrimination policy extends to the following core areas of our work:

  • Resource Creation: We are committed to providing resources that are welcoming to all. We will never publish content that is intentionally discriminatory regarding a human’s race, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, health, disability, age, economic status, family status, religion, political views, or place of residence. Our educational materials are designed to be accessible and representative of the diverse global community of caregivers.
  • Public Communication: Whether through social media, public speaking, or digital outreach, our voice remains rooted in inclusivity. We strive to ensure our public presence reflects our values and actively avoids the marginalization of any group.
  • Governance & Leadership: Our organizational oversight and decision-making processes are guided by the principles of equity. We believe that diverse, inclusive, and kind perspectives at the governance level lead to more robust and compassionate outcomes for the sanctuary community.
  • Internal Communications: We strive to maintain a culture of professional respect and safety. All internal interactions—among staff, volunteers, and collaborators—endeavor to also adhere to these standards of nondiscrimination.

Got A Concern? Please Get In Touch!

We are, of course, also only human ourselves, and we may not always meet the above standards. If you believe there’s a resource or communication where we could do better to uphold the spirit of our nondiscrimination policy, please contact us so we can address any potential shortfalls.
